2021-2022 ANNUAL REPORT

What We Achieved In Our First Year.

The year 2021-2022 was a success for Khaya Foundation. We did not know what to expect as this was our first year operating as a charity-but the support that we got was incredible. I am excited to report that we met all our annual objectives. We raised £2,358 from our various fundraising campaigns and through donations. This money was utilised to support various Khaya Programmes. Please read below for more details.

Empowering children through education in collaboration with Methocare.

MethoCare has identified 25 children (15 in primary school and 10 in secondary school) that are in need of school fees. Most of these children live with elderly grandparents who are unable to provide for them. Khaya Foundation and Methocare share the same vision and objectives; hence we have formed a collaboration to help provide practical solutions to these problems.

Some of the children were not attending school prior to our intervention due to financial difficulties. Hence, we organised a few fundraising activities that enabled us to provide support where it was needed.

Every school term, we send money to Zimbabwe to pay school for all our 25 beneficiaries. Methocare representatives support us by driving to different schools to ensure that the school fees is paid, and they constantly keep in touch with the children to ensure that they have everything they need for the school term. Your donations to our organisation are invaluable. They enable us to carry out this great work & to overcome some of the challenges faced by underprivileged children in Zimbabwe. We are very grateful for your support & we hope you will continue to work with us.

Our Work In Collaboration With Chosen Generation Orphanage School. 

We have also been working in collaboration with Chosen Generation Orphanage School. This school is run by the headmistress Ms. Ashley Nkuwasenga, and it’s based in Epworth, Harare.

There are approximately 100 children at this school that need financial support. However, this financial year we were only able to provide assistance to 10 children. Through our fundraising activities we successfully raised enough funds to cover the annual school fees for our 10 beneficiaries.

The current cost of school fees covers tuition and one school meal a day.

Moreover, we ran a clothes drive and managed to send a drum full of clothes to the CGOS. The headmistress, Ms Ashley Nkuwasenga informed us of that most of the children did not have adequate clothing. We saw this as an opportunity to provide a solution and be of assistance. The clothes sent were not just distributed to our 10 beneficiaries. The headmistress endeavoured to give them to as many children as possible.

In addition, we ended the year on a high note by providing for funds for all the children at the orphanage school to a ‘Christmas Meal’ along with their families.

Our Contribution To The Fight Against Covid 19.

We are very grateful for all our donors' generous donations! We have managed to provide hand sanitisers and face masks to our beneficiaries at the Chosen Generation Orphanage School (GCOS). As we may be aware, face masks and sanitisers are not readily available or accessible to most people in Zimbabwe.

When the GCOS headmistress, Ms. Ashley Nkuwasenga notified us that there were new protocols requiring all children in attendance to wear a mask and carry a hand sanitiser when at school. Ms. Nkuwasenga also indicated that some of the children were wearing the same disposable masks for over a week. We then started a few campaigns to raise funds. Your donations have made life a little easier for not only our beneficiaries but all 90 children who attend GCOS. With your generous contributions, the school was able to find a local seamstress who made reusable cotton masks for every child at GCOS.

Another issue faced by the school was that purchasing sanitisers by the bottle was proving to be cost prohibitive. After communicating this issue with our team, our Project Manager, Ms. Evue put together a homemade sanitiser "recipe" and sent the list to GCOS. Ms. Nkuwasenga advised that some of the older students and herself made batches of hand sanitisers to last the whole year and were then distributed to all the children.

We know that times are tough, but there are still reasons to smile. Your support has helped protect the children against the virus. With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting everyday life, we thank you for your continued support and wish you and your community health and peace.
